International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated annually on 8 March. To mark IWD this year and inspire the community, Islington’s Women’s Staff Forum asked the local community to nominate women who live and work in the borough who have made a bold contribution to gender. From the nominations, the Women’s Staff Forum chose six women who have championed women’s rights and made Islington a better and more inclusive place. They are: Suzanne Lee, Artistic Director of community arts organisation All Change; criminal justice campaigner Liz Hogarth; Bilingual Family Support Worker Jamad Abdi; Anita Grant, Director of Islington Play Association; Jennifer Savage, Practice Manager of the Pause project; and Polly Mann, who has run the St Luke’s History Group as a volunteer for over a decade. Their stories and my photographs have been made into a digital artwork, created by artist Sarah Pimenta. The artwork was unveiled at the Women’s Staff Forum meeting on Thursday 9 March.
